Attention LRGC Pistol Shooters!  How about trying IDPA Shooting?

Note: This event is a repeat of the IDPA Introductory event (plus first training session) held several times over the past two years. We are repeating this event to allow those shooters that missed those sessions to attend. This event consists of two parts on two separate Saturdays - Jan 8 and 22 - and you MUST attend both to complete the INTRO requirements. Completion of both days is a requirement for registering and attending subsequent IDPA training sessions. Shooters that have already attended an IDPA Intro event should not attend - please allow space for others to sign-up as space is limited.

Activity: "Competition Defensive Pistol Shooting" (rules by the International Defensive Pistol Association - IDPA, which can be found at this link: IDPA Rulebook).

In this competitive shooting sport, we shoot targets in priority order and from cover (when available) and possibly even while moving. Ammo available to hit the required targets will be limited (this isn't Hollywood) and you will have to carry and reload as you go.  Note that this is a speed/timed event where you will try to shoot all the targets as fast as possible with time penalties for lack of shooting accuracy and/or missed targets.

This session will introduce you to the rules of IDPA competition shooting and provide some examples of IDPA shooting activities.  We will do some shooting the first session - the amount you will be able to shoot will ultimately depend on the turn-out we get, but we hope to have four stages.

Please REGISTER on-line in advance and SHOW-UP if you do!  (Log-in, then go to date on website calendar and click on event to register). Registration numbers will be limited.

Requirements: (must be 18 years and have RPAL for pistol.)

1) A centre-fire (CF) pistol is typically required for IDPA events, however we will allow 22 cal rimfire pistols for our sessions if you do not have a CF pistol.
(Note: Any type of sights are ok - bring a holster if you have one as we will allow for administrative carry - however we will not be drawing loaded pistols from a holster. Note - a holster is not required but makes it easier to store firearms between relays.)

2) Must have a minimum of (3) magazines with preferably at least a double magazine holder on a belt (or bring clothing with big pockets!)

3) All personal safety gear (eye + ear protection - note that electronic ones are HIGHLY recommended)

4) Sufficient ammo that WORKS in your gun!! Be sure and try it before you attend.  This is NOT the place to TEST it.  Bring a minimum of 150 rounds the first session - more may be required per session in the future.  Don't forget your mag loader!

Note: You will need a MINIMUM of 31 rounds per setup x 4 stations (expected) = 124 rounds x a "miss/jam" factor of 1.2 = about 150 rounds. (You can always take it home - but you can't get more - so I always bring extra.)  This type of shooting DOES eat up a lot of ammo so be aware! Please come prepared.

5) Fees are typical LRGC range/shoot fees + an appropriate fee to cover targets (currently $3/session).  So $10 per session x 2 = $20 for both days (paid in advance) will do it. You need to pay online at the time of registration or your registration will be automatically cancelled. You must attend both sessions to complete the Intro Course and be allowed into subsequent IDPA training sessions. Space is limited due to COVID concerns.

YOU MUST REGISTER AND PAY ONLINE FOR THIS EVENT.  MEMBERS ONLY!

We will be discussing aspects of the rules and equipment initially and then move into shooting.

Important!  If you cannot attend - after you have registered - you must cancel and/or contact planning@lrgc.com at least two days prior to the event to allow time to contact any wait-listed shooters, or your name will be recorded and may reduce your ability to register for future dates.  We want to be sure to accommodate as many shooters as possible, and that wait-listed shooter might be you next time!

Hope to see you at the session! Contact planning@lrgc.com with any specific questions.
