Langley had 3 skeet shoots this spring and all were well attended. We tried having one-day shoots this time and that worked out well so next year we will try one-day shoots again, but may be with a little different format. Our two-day shoot in May produced fourteen shooters and we threw 5,000 targets. The fee structure changed this year. A shooter may enter targets only for $24.00 and have the option of purse money for an additional $8.00 each event. So if you are not that confident of making a good score and winning any money, just go for targets only. Of course that’s when you will shoot a winning score (when you don’t have the options) if your luck is like mine. Cowichan Valley Trap & Skeet Club hosted the Provincial Championships this year and fifteen shooters competed. Mixed weather greeted us. Saturday it rained and Sunday it blew gale force 6 gusting to gale force 9 I’m sure. Terry Guest and myself attended from Langley and made a good showing. Terry won the 20 ga. event and I won the 28 ga., .410 Cal, High Over All, and High All Around. Ron Stubbings (yes, the same Ron Stubbings from Victoria that shoots trap) won the 12 ga. Jim McHattie also from Victoria won the doubles event. Next year the Provincial Championships will be held here at Langley and I would like to see more of our local shooters try their hand at skeet. On July 9 -11 several of us headed to Port Alberni for a 4-gun skeet shoot. Actually we are going for the fresh Bar B Q’d salmon they do such a great job on; shooting is the excuse to go.
